A one-day legal training was held in Orai, Uttar Pradesh, for DDJC volunteers to strengthen their understanding of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The Delhi gangrape of 2012 shocked India, contributed to the fall of a government and led to the establishment of 733 centres meant to help women who had been abused or attacked. In 2019, the Supreme Court listed what these centres should have: from medical and legal help to air conditioning and video conferencing. Instead, a visit to four of six centres in Delhi’s courts, India’s most unsafe city for women, and right-to-information queries revealed centres not doing what they were meant to do.
A Legal Aid camp was organized by Misaal with Part III lawyers in Mustafabad, Delhi, offering legal advice to 9 families. Case details were recorded, and after the camp, the team spoke with girls from Misaal’s Talim Centre, discussing ways to protect themselves from harassment near their school.
Part III conducted a session on FIRs and the criminal justice system, covering the distinction between cognizable and non-cognizable offences, filing complaints, and handling police refusal. The participants shared real-life challenges, including harassment outside Gaddhe Wali school, highlighting the lack of police action and growing safety concerns for girls.

PART III held a session for Misaal’s Stitching Centre, introducing a new group of 30 Muslim women and girls to fundamental and gender rights. The training included discussions on constitutional freedoms, religious rights, and real-life experiences, empowering participants to explore legal education and seek advice on college admissions.
